What is a time card?
A time card, also known as a timesheet or time record, is a document or electronic record that allows you to track and record the number of hours worked by an employee during a pay period. It includes total hours worked each day, breaks, overtime, and vacations and helps employers calculate accurate employee wages while staying compliant with labor laws and regulations.
How to use the time card calculator?
Using the time card calculator is extremely simple. Follow our step-by-step instructions and calculate your employee’s productivity the easy way:
Set up the time card calculator
Enter your employees’ details to get started. Select the appropriate pay period, such as weekly or bi-weekly, based on your organization's payroll schedule.
Add hourly and overtime rates
Select the overtime rule (daily or weekly), enter the base hourly pay rate, and specify the overtime rate. If the employee is not eligible for overtime, select “Exempt”.
Enter time worked

Common issues while using time cards
Time cards are the easiest way to track employees’ productive hours and accurately generate their payrolls. But sometimes, employees complain of inaccurate salaries during payday. This may happen due to one of the following reasons:
It is not uncommon for employers to misclassify employees as exempt from overtime. This can result in the failure to provide them with the right compensation they are entitled to. To avoid such issues, check employee classification carefully as incorrectly classifying employees can leave the employer vulnerable to potential legal issues.
If an employer fails to accurately track and include breaks in their employees’ time card calculations, they run the risk of facing wage and hour lawsuits. Properly managing and accounting for breaks is crucial to avoid legal complications.
